Exclusive The King Of Fighters Destiny Anime Interview With Idragons Studio

Published:

The King Of Fighters Destiny finished its first season a few months back. The first ever serialized KOF anime started where it all began with an adaptation of KOF94. Fans loved it, and the ratings were through the roof. While we await an official announcement of a second season we decided to check with the studio behind it all: Idragons.

KOFworld: The King Of Fighters Destiny was the first proper anime for KOF . The first season was loved by fans, and the viewership wordlwide was great. Does Idragons sees the first season as a success?

Idragons: We are honored not only because of this kind of affirmation, but also that many friends and fans develop recommendations about what to change next time. Our team see it none other than a major impetus to do better in the future.

KOFworld: The story started from KOF94 and Fatal fury. What was the idea behind incorporating the Fatal fury Story with the first KOF?

Idragons: I think it’s safe to say that Fatal Fury is equally loved by KOF fans and it’s an all-time-favorite SNK game series. We think it would be a shame that people didn’t get the chance to see their favorite story in the anime.

KOFworld: In terms of the story of the series, was it written by SNK or is all done by Idragons?

Idragons: It was all done by us.

KOFworld: The series was all done in CG. what was the reason behind doing CG instead of hand drawn 2d animations?

Idragons: Everyone’s impression of KOF is 2D, we want to make a bold attempt.

KOFworld: The fight scenes were done amazingly and were very respectful of each fighter’s move list from the game. Can you tell us a bit about the process of doing these choreographies based on the game characters?

Idragons: In order to restore the original game, our company bought an arcade game machine. The artists and scriptwriters were ordered to play everyday, even the girls.

KOFworld: Speaking of fights, some people were disappointed that they didnt see their favorite fighter fight in the tournament, since only few of them were shown. How were these fights chosen?

Idragons: We mostly chose the fights that were considered to have different styles.

KOF destiny ending kyo

KOFworld: Looking at the comments of people on forums and youtube, the last scene of season 1 where we see Kyo Kusanagi in his KOFXIV outfit, and with a new cgi model was a bit confusing. Can you explain to us what is it about? What was the reason the CGI model was different? Was that around KOF14 era, or is that a different Kyo?

Idragons: It’s a secret. LOL

KOFworld: the Side stories episodes which dealt with background history of characters were loved by fans. How was it decided to these short episodes and are there any chance we see more of them while waiting for next season?

Idragons: Considering that in addition to the fans of KOF, there will surely be new audiences who have just come into know the characters. In order to let them have a better understanding of the roles of KOF, we specially made the side stories.

KOFworld: If there was one complain about the first season of KOF Destiny was the length of the episodes. What was the reason behind having an episode 10mn long rather tan the standard of 20-22 min

Idragons: The series were made mostly for Chinese video broadcast sites. This is the result of comprehensive consideration.

KOFworld: Are there Any plans to release the first season in Blu-ray with behind the scenes or extras?

Idragons: So far, there is no such plan.

I hope you enjoyed this interview as much as i did talking to the talented folks at Idragons. And here is hoping a second season of KOF destiny is just around the corner! The King Of Fighters Destiny is available to watch for free at SNKs youtube Page.
